A marvelous and thrilling journey to Holy Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarover with a difference, Encounters Nepal Holy Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarover begins this fascinating cultural and spiritual journey with a pleasant flight over the great massive Himalaya Mountains with views of Mt. Everest and Mt. Makalu at close distance during this an hour airborne to Tibet landing near the great spiritual city Lhasa, the rooftop capital as it stands at 3,660 meters high which allows you with enough acclimatization before heading towards Tibet remote South West of Ngari province where Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarover located.
In Lhasa with few days of interesting tour of famous monasteries and magnificent Potala Palace, and its busy colorful Barkhor square market as Lhasa is slowly developing into metropolitan cities; however its old culture, religions and custom still retains to this day.
In Lhasa interesting tour of ancient Drefung, Sera and Jorkhang monasteries where you can observe the old Tibetan religious artifacts, monuments and idols of more than thousand years old history.
One of the highlight of this trip beside Kailash & Lake Manasarover is a visit of majestic Potala Palace which is known as the “Heavenly Realm” the seat of many Dalai Lamas now turn into a museum, after a great time in Lhasa our journey heading towards Mt. Kailash through a picturesque route crossing over the scenic passes of Khamba-la 4,800 m, Karo-la 5,050 m and along the turquoise Yamdrok Tsho Lake with views of snow capped peaks along the drive to Shigatse the second largest city in Tibet, in Shigatse tour of golden roofed Tashiplumpo large monastery complex, the seat of Panchen Lama (2nd highest supreme of Tibet after Dalai Lama).
After an enjoyable time with good acclimatization days and interesting tour of Lhasa, Shigatse our route then leads towards Mt. Kailash area driving south west after reaching the town of Larze located on a junction at the main Tibet / Nepal Friendship Highway, from this town our route diverts from the main Lhasa / Kathmandu highway heading towards complete wilderness crossing over some passes to reach at Saga town by the holy river Brahmaputra or Yalung Tsangpo which flows from the Mt. Kailash.
From Saga our journey continues to Ngari area in South West Tibet at Barkha valley where Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarover located, at first after arrival in Darchen town situated beneath great South Face of Mt. Kailash, where the Kora, Parikrama and Kailash circuit starts, this place is flooded with Indian, Tibetans and western pilgrims during the festive time of Saga Dawa which falls in end of April or May (as per Buddhist calendar).
As this mountain is sacred for many religions Hindu, Buddhist, Bon (early or pre Buddhist) and to Jain people.
Starting the first day walk leading to the North side of Mt. Kailash and over Droma-la the highest and holy spot at 5, 470 m /18,525 ft, this spot with hundreds of prayer and offering with close views of Mt. Kailash, from here heading downhill towards a pleasant walk past Zutulpuk a small place with few lodge and shops.
On concluding the holy Kailahs circuit or kora, our next journey leads to holy Lake Manasarover, where one can perform prayer with a visit of an old Chui monastery located in a cave on a hill side nearby.
After a great spiritual adventure heading back to Kathmandu with an interesting drive on the vast windswept Tibetan plateau with awesome views of Himalayan chain of mountains that borders Tibet and Nepal and great thrill, an experience of lifetime as the drive leads near Nepal border and back to green vegetation and forested area. After the border in Zhangmu within Tibet / China bidding farewell to our Tibetan guide and drivers and slowly leading towards Nepal territory for a super scenic drive back to hustle bustle Kathmandu city.
