Whom The Gods Wish to Destroy!

Corona virus or Pneumonia?
Escaping Death on the Wings of a Prayer

Life in these uncertain times of the corona pandemic can disturb the mental thought process and weakens the immune systems of the body. This brings on disease at a time when you least expect it. In this note of gratitude of mine, I wish to tell my brief story of an experience that may act as a wakeup call to all my good friends, well wishers & other citizens reading this short story:

It was on the 22nd of September, when my good old tourism friends Deven Shiwakoti and my Arjun Simkhada had visited me at my office Encountersnepal.com . I wasn’t too well on this day which was a start to a bad experience of an unknown cold germ that was building up in my body. My head was heavy & I wasn’t feeling too well. We enjoyed some herbal tea & I decided to go home. The next 2 days was an unknown normal. It was on Saturday when the germ in my body peaked & I decided to go to the hospital. The nearest was Manmohan hospital who referred us to the Teaching hospital. At the teaching hospital, X-rays were done & my chest & lungs were found to be misty and clouded. The doctors said I must be transferred immediately to an ICU unit. I soon realized that my life could be possibly hanging on a thin redline between life & death. I had also done a covid 19 test twice at HAMs which returned neg. this was the only bright spot in my bitter experiences that had only just begun. No ICU was vacant at teaching hospital so I was referred to Green city hospital. Along with my family & friends, I was transferred in an ambulance to Greencity hospital. It was here where after a string of blood tests I was diagnosed with Pneumonia & since even the ICU unit here too, was not vacant, the issue of transferring me to HAMs hospital where an ICU was available. However, a transfer via ambulance was risky because my situation was diagnosed as very serious & critical as it was believed the fatality of death could occur while in transit to HAMS. The vital need for a ventilator had also developed & the availability of ventilators was highly scarce in Kathmandu & now ventilators in the valley have become valuable as much as life itself.Sonam Sherpa of Thamserkhu who kindly made available a ventilator at HAMs hospital while the fear of death lurked around the corner.

Since the risks were 95% high, green city doctors had contacted HAMs & explained my situation to them; following which, a team of doctors from HAMs had come over to Greencity hospital, checked my medical situation & decided on anesthesia to drain the Pneumonia toxins from my lungs & chest. I was soon lost to the living world & was transferred, unconscious, under oxygen in an ambulance to HAMs hospital & immediately sent to the ICU on arrival.

I was soon connected to the ventilator & was left to the mercy of the gods to decide on whether it would be life or death. For almost 2 weeks without any food I was given liquid diets only while I was on the ventilator & on the 14th day, I soon became conscious & God opened my eyes. Perhaps, the gods decided to spare my life & give me a new rebirth for some reasons only known to God himself. I soon got familiar with my surroundings & realized how much my family & good friends had worked so hard to ensure that I would come to this good point in my life.

On day 27 the HAMs doctors decided to discharge me from the hospital with sound medical & dietary advice. Reaching home alive was the sweetest experience of my life, an experience I will never forget in my entire life.

I would like to sincerely thank from deep within my heart the kind people noted below who played an important part of this painful healing process that saved my life by the will of God:
